How to Stop Your Phone From Asking for the Same Permissions Over and Over

By The Evergrown | February 1, 2026

If your phone keeps asking for permission to access photos, location, or contacts — even after you’ve already answered — you’re not imagining it.

This is a common issue, especially as apps update more frequently.

Why Permission Prompts Keep Appearing

App permissions are tied to settings, updates, and system rules.

When an app updates, changes how it uses data, or resets a feature, the phone may request permission again — even if you previously allowed it.

This Is Not User Error

Repeated permission requests are not caused by pressing the wrong button.

They’re usually triggered by:

  • App updates that change how data is accessed
  • Operating system updates
  • Temporary permissions that expire

Where to Check Permissions Directly

The most effective fix is to review permissions in one place.

On most phones, you can:

  • Open Settings
  • Select Privacy or App Permissions
  • Choose the app
  • Set permissions to “Allow while using” or “Always allow” if appropriate

Why Phones Use Temporary Permissions

Newer systems often default to temporary access.

This protects privacy, but it also causes repeated prompts when apps are used often.

What Actually Reduces Pop-Ups

Consistency helps more than constant adjusting.

  • Use fewer apps for the same task
  • Remove apps you no longer use
  • Check permissions after major updates

A Reassuring Perspective

If your phone keeps asking for permissions, it doesn’t mean you’re missing something.

It means the rules changed — and your phone is checking again.

Once you know where to look, the issue becomes much easier to manage.
